Tonight I almost got dad's car back on the road. Once we fired it up, I noticed the lighting was not lit behind the cluster. I tapped on the bezel around the cluster and it lit back up. After talking to someone more knowledgeable about those gauge clusters, I was told that the board was probably on it's way out.
Anyone have this problem? If so, how much is the part? Can you get it rebuilt?
Re: Digital board for speedo on '88 model (C4 Newbie)
I to had this same problem and it turned out to be a bad ground in the board.....it did take a little bit to find, but never the less....I did....There are many things it could be...it could just be the cable connections......Try removing the cable from the whole cluster itself and cleaning it.....also try cleaning the plug connections ....there are a few options....Don't spend hard earned money on something you don't need to gett until you have tried all avenues....And yes they can be redone...Mad Direct, Ecklers and such....I think it's an exchange thing....I have taken my cluster apart many times...it's easy...so don't be scared about doing it....it's no big deal...
It's most likely your light bulb not making good contact. You have 4 light bulbs behind that dash if it were not for these you wouldn't see a thing. If you do take this thing apart be very carefull.
If you come across the link, that would be great. I tried a search but to no avail.
It's not a big deal, I'm sure I can take it out and find it, just would hate to go through the trouble of taking it all apart and find out that I missed something.

:iagree:
This happened to me. Change all the bulbs so you don't have to take the Dash apart again.
