Default OBDII codes

This weekend I'm going to look at, and hopefully purchase my first Vette, a '96 LT4. I read somewhere once about checking the OBDII system by grounding a couple of the pins. Is this something I should do, and is there a place to see what the codes mean?
Also, does anyone know of anything in particular that I should look for? It's got 64k, and, the pics, look very clean.
I look forward to eventually adding my 0.02 to this forum as I learn more.
Thanks a lot.

Hay Boomer, Sorry nobody responded to this post in time for you. No, you cannot just jump some of the terminals. You need a code scanner to pull codes on an OBDII car. Hope you found the car to your liking and bought it. Good luck.

i think that i have the web site at hom that tells you how too pull the codes from an OBDII im pretty sure that you have to jump pins 4 & 12 and that will give you a set of codes for each computer.

I don't think so, Comp94. Let us know if you find something like that. The OBDII codes are not simple 2 digit codes that can be flashed on the Driver Information Center. They need to be read with a scan tool or code reader.
