How do you replace exhaust manifold to Y-pipe studs? I twisted one off while removing the front Y-pipe. I don't have enough threads to double-nut it and twist it out but it doesn't look like it's threaded in anyway. Help would be appreciated.
You mean from the stock shorty headers to the curved pipe that is part of th y-pipe?
Then yes...you will probably have to drill it out.
I used some cobalt drill bits and some hand files.
After about 3 hours of hand filing...all that was left ~0.1mm but it wasn't coming out. So I just drilled a new hold and tapped it and put in a new bolt.
It works...but hopefully yours goes better.
Good Luck!
If I understand you right, you are talking one of the three on the flange from the exhaust manifold to the pipe, just above where the oxygen sensor is on the driver side for example.
These studs are threaded in the flange, at least the ones I've worked on are. If there is any sticking out to get a hold of, you can heat it up with a torch. That's how I got the ones on my 85 off. They can be replaced with grade 8 bolts, I found mine at pep boys.
As I stated in another post... be careful when using torches. Flames are dangerous :yesnod:
