Here's my problem my NGK FR5 burn great (tan in colour)when I have them cut back and .050 gap.My car is supercharged with edelbrock performers heads straight plugs and I think thats where my problem lies.At .050 gap my ignition breaks down at high rpm's even with MSD installed so I closed the gap and found that with a .038 gap the ignition dosent break down and the car pulls hard but my spark plugs are not burning properly they are wet and glazed on one side it seem that I need a bigger spark or hotter plug but with a supercharger you would think to go with a colder plug
I sthis with a full MSD package coilt etc..? or are you using the coil in cap setup? .05 should be no problem for aftermarket stuff at high RPM. OEM on the otherhand may be troublesome. What RPM is the problem occuring at?
At 4000 RPM I almsot wonder if it's detonation that you're describing. Try it with some race gas and see what happens. I forget which way the spark gaps move, when supercharged you would normally run a smaller gap anyways right?
I'm thinking 4000 is around your torque peak and maybe the engine is getting into just a "touch" of detonation.
