Default Single Plane EFI manifold conversion for C4 Vettes- Prototype Finished! **UPDATE**

I have finished the first iteration of this manifold specifically for C4 Vettes or any other TPI equipped vehicle with limited hood clearance. It is being shipped to Jesse (ski_dwn_it) as we speak for testing on his low 11 second Vette (soon to be 10 second Vette); he will provide feedback to those interested on here as well as to me on what changes he feels necessary with my design. Additionally there are already changes slated for the second iteration of it (mainly having to do with the adapter plenum and t-stat location).

This first prototype has been dubbed "XSP1" and hopefully Jesse will post photos as soon as he is able (because my dumb azz can't). There is a combined total of around 70 hours in this first manifold which includes the fabrication and flowbench testing. Now that I know what changes need to be made and the time involved shouldn't add too much to the above hours... Once we've decided on a final production piece I will let ya'll know and will post pics of it as well.
-Jeb

SWEET!

Sounds like a good alternative to "other" manifolds...

Sounds great, Jeb! Do you think this manifold will be beneficial to the majority of us still with 350s also? If so I bet I know a 350 and a 396 up here that would be willing to test it out. :yesnod:

You can bet I will post the picture of the setup, as well as all my changes, it will be well documented for all to see.

I am very excited to get this manifold strapped on/tuned/and tested. I was able to again run my setup with the new converter. THis time in the heat on sunday, so I have a VERY good base to test the intake off of no matter what the weather throws at me. Barring snow :cry I will just have to head further south if that happens.

Might as well keep all the questions/conversations between us public, as this is going to be a learning process for the two of us. And one that other can learn from.

So....What intake gaskets do you recommend I order. I have to order a few other items tonight and figure I might as well get them while I am at it, so I can have it all ready for this weekend hopefully.

Felpro 1205 or 1206 intake gaskets?

And here are the pictures: Its looks lethal!:reddevil

Very interested in the results! Because I haven't had a chance to finish mine. I considering building a similiar plenum and using a TPI style throttle body like in the pics Ski-it-down posted, but I'm not sure just yet maybe you guys can convince me. Nice work!

Alot of speculation this weekend about the results. And it is not very often that trustworthy hard facts follow all the speculation. This should be good.

How did you come up with the volume size for the plenum box?

Good question? There are a couple of similiar plenums around that work pretty good. I would think, other than previos experience and trail/error, a simulator ( a good and accurate one, if it exists) would be very helpful. I'll wait and see what results they get (which should be good) and see which direction I'd go.

I'll take a guess as it looks suspiciously like an Edelbrock Torker manifold...

Very nice work guys. Good luck!!

:iagree:

If this performs good, then I would dump the miniram and swap one of these in.

Any idea on cost?

The actual manifold is an Edelbrock Super Victor, p/n 2925, which is a long/larger runner single plane. As for the plenum volume I took a stab based on a previous sheet metal manifold I built. It flows pretty well; I threw it on the bench with no port work and no throttle body, and not attached to a head just to see what the maximum flow potential of the setup was... The manifold alone was 290, with the plenum adapter it flowed 296...So it actually PICKED up flow with it bolted on, but this may have something to do with air shear. These numbers are at 28" of H2O on a JKM Flowbench.

I've already decided on a couple of changes that will be made on further units and will send Jesse another one in the next couple of weeks. The majority of the change revolves around the adapter itself; I'm going to taper the front of it to re-center the t.b. and to allow a funnel effect for the air. It will reduce plenum volume only slightly but should increase air velocity.

will you be selling these units or will you provide us with some dimensions on how to build one at home?
