I am thinking about getting the Xenarc® HID X6054 Sealed Beam (Sylvania). It sells for $300.
Has anyone gone done this headlight conversion or know someone that has, if so how do you like it or not and why?
Also, I know there are a few other companies that make HID systems, did anyone install a HID system other from Sylvania? If so, how did you like it or not and why.
The light bulb is a D1R HID which is OEM quality, but the reflector housings were made in taiwan and the bulb is so heavily shielded the beam pattern is like a laser beam with awful peripheral lighting.
I had these on mine and am sending them back.
Sylvania is embarrased by them that is why they are discontinuing them.
Junk Junk Junk Junk.
Also, be aware an automotive lighting engineer tells me if you buy a HID setup you need one that comes with a reflector engineered to the HID bulb.
Except not the Xenarc. Sylvania dropped the ball on it. In fact the same engineer i talked to worked on that program when he was with Xenarc.
IF you buy the kit....buy it for the bulbs because $300 is a good deal for D1R bulbs.
To dizwiz24, good information about the HIDs from Sylvannia. I am suprised that the reflecter was NOT designed to take the D1R bulb. What are you running now for lights?
Try the silverstars, a friend of mine has them and they are pretty good.
If you really want HID, I woud say, go for it.
I got a Hella HID D2S 5600K kit and BMW bixenon projectors, this was the best thing ever done to my car, after painting it, I run the lights even at day heheh. The only problem is that it took me like 2 months to install them since I had to fit the proyector inside my headlamp, but it's possible.
Tried the Sylvania HID units last years on my truck (REAL HID) ...they are GARBAGE!!! I sent the back after installing them. The install also involves mounting the ballasts and relays....not a simple seal beam replacement! They are crap.
Well, I installed the Silversatrs last night and they are a moajor improvement from what I can tell; in the garage. After I give them a formal road test I'll post more opinions. Back to the u-joints............
