Default Part 2: Headlight problem continues...

OK, I put the new nylon bushings in the headlight motor, put it ALL back together, seemed pretty simple assembly, no parts left-over. But now headlight stops raising after only a small way into the cycle. Can't turn it with the manual **** either. Could I have put it back together out of sync with the manual part of the motor? Is there a way I can take it apart and wind the **** to a position that gives it the right point of "synchrinization?"
Or could it be that what I thought was enough grease on the big gear was not enough to make it rotate freely? Anybody have this happen to them?
ps: I know I spun the winder while I had the Assembly out!!⁄⁄?? Thanks

If you can't turn the manual open/ close **** on the motor, something must be binding in there. You might want to take it apart again and try to see why it won't turn. Sounds like something's not quite right, but these are fairly simple mechanisms, with few moving parts.

Good luck

Anyone???
I've never been inside mine (but I'll soon have to), so I can't be of any help.

Sorry.

if you spun it while the assembly was out maybe you put it back together with the motor not in the right position. like maybe you put it in there with the motor in the halfway position but the headlight is in the fully down position. i imagine there are some kind of stops built into the assembly. when you put it back together you should make sure that if the assembly is in the full down position that the headlight motor is in the full down position too.
p.s. i've never had mine apart either so this is speculation, but i think it is a very good guess.

If it's your passenger side only check to make sure that your coolant overflow tube is not getting in the way. Mine was. I put some vasaline on the tube and saw that it transfered to the light after I cranked the light around.

Let the HL motor cool. Turn them on to put it in a bind. Grab the headlight and gently try to move it open/close. Look/feel for slack in the linkage. If it is the linkage you should be able to see where it is tight or bound up. If the headlight will move slightly and the linkage has some slop I would guess something in the gearbox where the nylon bushings live is in a bind. Perhaps you could have someone open and close the hl while you watch the linkage for interfearance.
Good luck.

It is a 1989 Coupe, it is the driver's side and yes I do agree that spinning the **** has me thinking that it was the culprit. I won't have time til the weekend but I will try TPFKATK's suggestion, I was just hoping someone would actually have experience at righting the wrong I did by spinning the **** so I would know a procedure to follow in case that is the REAL problem. Thanks to everyone for all their suggestions so far.

Youv'e got a binding problem.Turning the **** has no effect on when the motor stops or starts. When the headlight opens or closes, and reaches the end of its travel, the motor wont turn so a relay senses an amperage peak and shuts off the motor. This happens so quick that it doesn't hurt the motor. There are no sensors that sense open or closed position. There is a metal peice that the output shaft runs though (about an 1 inch long) it spins with the assembly from lock to lock.If it's on wrong it will cause your light from opening all the way.Use your good light as a guide for assembly.
If you cant turn the **** something is binding for sure.Mine broke 2 weeks ago.Replaced bushings, no luck, ordered $62 bronze gear, no luck! My output shaft was stripped on the peice that holds the bushings.I coudn't turn it by hand but with visegrips I could spin it.You can't by just that peice so I J B welded it. That lasted about 4 days. Now I'm shopping around for a used motor. I hope I helped you out.
