Default Air pump and AC elim.

Does anyone see an obvious reason why this wouldn't work in a C4? I'm having a tough time finding a setup to run just the Alt., water pump, and power steering pump.

The Alt is on the wrong side, less you do some wiring.

Why would you want to go back to v-belts? You might end up losing any gain you made from dropping a couple pieces.

I'm sure you can get a standard serp belt just shorter to route around things.
I would not ever go back to vbelt setup liek the fbodies had.

I want to completely eliminate the AC and air pump, not just go around them. Anyone have any other setups?

I'll have to go look at my current belt routing, but could this be accomplished by just putting a small idler pulley where the Air pump and AC once were? They'll surely take less to turn.

I'm trying to cut out the clutter. Putting idler pulleys all over the place doesn't help. Are the v-belts really that bad? If so, why?

I think???? you maybe trying to put to much into this. My car is setup like what you are looking for I think. I have no air pump nor AC. I took the A/C system off/out. I then got a air pump elim. kit. With the A/C compress. gone there is nothing at all there/in the way. THe air pump kit does leave a pulley but it's a small setup that doesn't get in the way of anything and looks kinda good really. Plus this saves from having to do anything but buy a shorter belt. You just have to route it abit different. The look is clean and makes it so much eaier to work on. I could not being to think about working on this thing with all that crap from before on there. :U

I did the same thing as 88_vette. Sorry this isn't a better picture but you can kindof get the idea. You just run the belt around the tensioner the other way than stock when you take out the a/c compressor. I think my belt size came out to be a 735k6.

I have driven my car pretty hard for about 3 years with this setup and haven't had any belt problems.

Thanks for the pics. I'm starting to think that might be the way to go. When I removed my AC compressor I found that the bracket was cracked, so rather than replace it, I was going to go with another setup. I might have to start looking for a new one.

Good pic. Why not go one step farther and build an air pump eliminator bracket? I did for mine and ended up with a 6"+ shorter belt and it cleared everything with no trouble. Don't have a way to post the bracket pic, but I'll send you some if you want to see.
