Default Moving MAT Sensor on SC C4

I was thinking of moving my MAT Sensor from the stock location to a place it can grab cold air?

Is this a good idea or no? and where should i mount it?

hey Kevin
Moving the map sensor should not be a problem. Cause the 1994-1996LT1 vette map sensor has been move also. I got a 93 so I have no map sensor.

Aftermarket engine management systems recommend locating the MAT ~6" in front of the TB on forced induction type applications. There is an added benefit in that you are able to determine how efficiently the ICs are working to pull the heat from the compressed air.

When using the factory type ECM, I ran the MAT in front of the SC between the filter and the blower, now I install the MAT in the downpipe that feeds the throttle body.

It doesn't really matter where the MAT temp sensor is; as long as the ECM is properly programmed with it in place. There are several tables of X versus intake air temp, so if it's 40&deg hotter or cooler the tables are just offset to the right or left.

Moving the MAT was a trick used to fool the ECM into thinking the air charge was cooler and not pull out as much timing. Although there is some definite heat soak from the engine to manifold.

I would leave it were it is and tune it to it's optimal operating temp/soak. It'll probably take a dyno to do that, but I don't think it's the same as an N/A car. Afterall, you want the post IC air temp. That will be the most accurate.

FYI: The old stock MAT sensors were made with a metal housing which obviously got hot. A stock replacement MAT sensor from superior chevrolet is only $10 and it's made completely of plastic for the aforementioned reason.

i moved the MAT sensor on the tube between my IC and TB there is a hole there so i tapped it and my sensor fit just right :D

It seems to run smoother? that is weird?

But i really need to get my chip burned and you guys would be proud i added my 30# injectors this weekend

Where you place the mat will depend on your setup. On my car I have a nozzle injecting alcohol just before the TB if I had my mat 6 inches ahead of the TB it would not pickup on the huge temperature drop while injecting. I also use Nitrous it is minus-140 degrees plus like has already been pointed out you have heat in the manifold so if I used the 6 inch ahead of the TB recommendation it would run like poopie. Bottom line is place it in the best location for your setup and tune accordingly. It also depends on what ecm you are using the new Gen.-7 dfi uses a manifold temperature sensor to improve idle and low speed operation due to heat soak in the manifold.
