Ive started on a 383 using an older block instead of the L-98 presently in the car. Anyone know if I will run into any unusual problems because of this. Also interested in any advice on cam selection. I'd like to still be able to use the a/c. I'm going with the Mini-Ram setup and a world head with 2.05/160 valves. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time for your input.
Re: 383 with older 4 bolt block---any problems? (mikemay1969)
Be sure you have the correct balancer, flywheel, starter combo and cam choice (old block is not set up for stock roller ) ypu wil be good to go. :chevy

You will have no interchange or relibility problems because of using an earlier block. You CAN use a hydraulic roller cam if you like. With an earlier block, you will have to use, "retro fit" lifters. The roller cam blocks have taller lifter bores and are drilled and tapped for the lifter, "anti rotaters". Dan Plett modified his early block to take the Chevy, OEM, lifters, if you are interested in converting. Also, earlier blocks are set up for the two piece rear main oil seal. You will want to buy the appropriate crankshaft, unless you want to install a seal adaptor. Good luck, and...
Re: 383 with older 4 bolt block---any problems? (CFI-EFI)
Thanks for the info...I already have the appropriate crank, rods, seals, flex-plate, balancer etc.. imagine I will use 2149 long tubes... not sure about injector size yet.... cam is the biggest question though... want it to be big enough but not too big. I will also try to post a pic of the car on here in the next few days.

Give CompCams a call on their toll-free Tech line and give the Tech all the info on your car and its intended use. He/she will give you a recommended camshaft profile.
You can also buy a software program they have that allows you to plug in that same data and it'll give you a recommendation and also tell you if you have any mismatched or not recommended parts. Don't know the cost of the program though.
Personally, for a 383, I would not go bigger than 224/230@.050, but there are lots of guys who run larger cams and are happy with them.

Thanks Jake,
That takes care of my cam questions. I printed out a copy of comp cams recommendation form. When I get all my info together I will hook up with them and get the appropriate stick. Thanks agagin.
