I am helping a friend with a 94 Camaro. Who makes the best stall for a 4L60E, and who has the best price. We are looking for something around 2600-2800 with a lock up.
Re: Best stall convertor for 4L60E (tpi 421 vette)
Vigilante , 2800 rpm. Supposedly the 4L60E( electronic , non TV cable style) has issues with anything above 3000rpm. I read that somewhere.
I have the 4L60, 93 Model, and have a 2800 rpm stall with 3.75 gears, which also puts it into its RPM range quicker, so it doesnt slip as bad as it would if the 3.08 or 2.59 gears are.
Yank makes real good ones too, very strong.
700-850 bucks. I got mine from Chris at Speed Demon Motorsports
Re: Best stall convertor for 4L60E (tpi 421 vette)
I'm running an Edge Racing 3000 stall on my 95. I'm probably on the edge of having the PCM issues but none so far. 3000 is a bit high for around town driving, but sure makes go to get milk fun. Edge converters are about $400 -$500.
I've used a few cheaper off brand high stall converters, but since installing the vigilante in my 95' I am really happy with it. I like the 2600 stall speed.. also you may want to consider a trans cooler, higher stall converters produce more heat in the trans and heat is a trans's worst enemy. Also you may want to consider a shift kit Trans Go , by far is the best.. the higher the stall speed the softer your shifts seem to feel so that is why I reccomend the shift kit in addition to the stall. Percision industries seems to have some of the best quality and service around. you usually get what you pay for. Oh one more thing.. the vigilante if you didn't already know is a smaller diameter converter which means less weight at the flywheel which means quicker revs. less rotational mass can be a good thing...

almost forgot.. if your not rebuilding the trans.. make sure well either way, make sure you replace the torque conveter hub seal at the front pump. It sucks to find out after installing a new converter that the seal was worn enough that with the new converter it doesn't seal effectively.. why waste time pulling a trans and re-installing it when you can replace a 2 dollar seal. I found out the hard way a while back. unless you don't mind doing extra work and you like to gamle I would replace it.

Thanks guys, we will be doing the obvious things... replace the front seal, and put a trans cooler on it. Does anybody know if their is a difference between 4L60&4L60E convertors.

Does anybody know if their is a difference between 4L60&4L60E convertors.
All 30 spline, input shaft, 700R4, 4L60, and 4L60E, transmissions will take the same converter. GM changed from 27 splines to 30 in 1984 or 85. Except for early, odd *****, like mine was, they're pretty universal, today. Good luck, and...
Re: Best stall convertor for 4L60E (tpi 421 vette)
Aren't there also some stock GM high stall speed converters from Grand Nationals and trucks that would bolt in as well? I thought I had seen a few posts from CF members who had done this....
