I was looking at the SuperRam base on my 406 as I was prepping it for installation and noticed that it doesn't seem to have a spot for the cold start injector that comes stock on my '87. I checked the SuperRam runners and they have a small spot there that doesn't even look big enough to machine to put it back if I wanted. I know they phased cold start injectors out a few years later so what I was wondering is, what will the computer do when I fire up the car and there is nothing attached to the cold start injector harness? I am assuming I can tune around the actual need for one and it never gets colder than about 55 degrees here so that shouldn't be an issue. Couldn't find anything in the instructions about it but there were some gaskets missing when I bought it so maybe the instructions pertaining to it went missing too. It is listed as a smog legal part I believe which means it should have provisions for all stock parts to go back in their regular locations. Any info or tips on what you all have done would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You are right, the 9th injector (cold start valve) is not used with a superram setup. I just plugged my 9th injector off on the fuel rail, and actually cut the wiring that goes to the sensor which turns it on/off and the car starts fine even in cold, just takes a few extra rotations. When fully cold after a week of driving, it takes about 3-4 seconds to startup. You can program fo rthat in your '87 ecm (Haven't found the correct way to add start-enrich on my '85 yet though).
You'll be fine without it. My '87 would just take a few extra cranks when cold to get running. Once up to temp it started on the first turn after that. You can tune around it in the ECM with the "Injector Pulsewidth vs. Coolant Temp" field in the $32b code for 87/88 vettes.
I've done pretty good with the slow '85 ecm as it is, but I mainly want to switch over to the '165 due to it sending more data than the '870 ecm. Knock counts most importantly. Winter project though..
