Default Driveshaft Question?

Will the driveshaft out of a 91 auto fit into a 95 auto?

According to the information I have, no. The drive shaft from 84-91 (all applications) was part #12557818, and the drive shaft for 92-96 autos is part# 10054289. I'm looking this up in a copy of the microfiche that the dealer parts depts use. Just to be sure, call the dealer - I have found mistakes in this source before.

Common lore and my early parts book disputes your information. It has always been MY belief that the autos and manuals were different lengths due to the length (size) of of the Dana 44 vs 36 used with the different transmissions. My parts book doesn't show part number 12557818. It does show number, 10054289. 10054289 is listed to fit all 1984's and all 1985 - 1990 with automatic. My parts book was printed in 1989 and only shows applications to 1990. The application for part number 12557818, in the fiche, has to be in error, because as we all know, the auto driveshaft is longer than the manual. Some of the other numbers in my book may supercede to the 12557818. Your 1992- 1996 auto shaft is the same number as my 1984-1990 number. That would confirm my belief that all auto C4's share a common driveshaft. Good luck, and...

RACE ON!!!

The ads on ebay show the same auto driveshaft from 84-96. Does anyone else have any input?

AFAIK an auto driveshift is an autodriveshaft and a stick driveshaft is a stick driveshaft.

I know for a fact that the auto shaft is different then the stick shaft. I have an auto but I have the D44 rear end. The auto shaft does not fit my car 93. I have to use the stick version because it is shorter.

If you grind the splines off about the first 1/4-1/2" of the yoke it'll fit.

Scorp, I hadn't thought of that one....hmmm....nah. I already ordered the new (used) shaft from a salvage yard. But, should I need another one then I might try that approach. I'd rather cut it with a band saw though because of heat issues.....
