Default 2.59 to 3.07, how much difference?

I have a chance to get a 3.07 center section for my 94 coupe. Will it be a noticeable difference over the 2.59? Thanks for any advice.

It should put a pretty big grin on your face. It won't pull as hard at higher speeds. But off the line should be a bit peppier.

I would expect it to pull harder at higher speeds also, you would have more revs. It would be a good thing to do.

You will have nearly 20% more torque in all gears; so it will launch harder and pull harder in all gears.

Of course you will run out of gear 20% earlier (shift at lower mph); but with an LT1 that shouldn't be a problem.

Won't the top-end speed be slower with the 3.07's?

The 3.07 rear end is the factory "performance rear axle". When my L98 car still was completely stock i could easily accelerate faster 0-50mph with my 3.07 car than any of the 2.59 cars I know. The difference was about 1-2 car lengths.

Top speed is a concern for very few of us. It doesn't really matter if it goes 150, 160 or 170 mph if 100-120mph is really the top you will ever see. It is more important how fast you will get to that speed. Well, actually 0-50mph or 50-80mph are the most usefull to street driven cars. Track cars obviously can use performance above that.

Talk to Robertpel9 about this. He has a 91 vert and we did this swap in his car a short while back. Do a search in the archives, there were a few posts about the job and the results. Or IM him, he can give you some insight.

Okay Kirby! You're going to like this upgrade. Where do you plan on doing the swap? My garage is available. We just have to do some reading and get some advice from my son. :smash:  :smash:

It will pull better, and possibly even top end higher, as a lot of engines can't over-come the air & weight forces without the gearing advantage.

Thanks for all the info  The 3.07 is out of a 1984 and I am installing it in a 1994, should everything match up with no problems? I have a Hypertech PP3 for the speedo calibration.

There is definatley a difference in the holes on the carrier from the old style to the new style. You will have to drill the holes through the case and batwing to accept the larger bolts that the new diffs use. It is a simple operation!

Also....it is just as simple to change the speedo gear to the correct one. Two minute job. I forget which gear you need, but IM Robertpel9...he'll know.

Not as much as the 2.59 - 3.45 that I'm going with! :D And I thought I had traction probems before!!!  You'll definately like the upgrade, and it'll be well worth the few hundred dollars.

I just bought 10.8 bolts the smaller size. Drilling out the flanges made them too thin for me.
