Ok, Guys I dont kow how you all clean your K&N. I just took mine out to clean and I am bored so I figured I will do it really well and pre soak it with the cleaner and then soak it in the bath tub for a while,,, I usually just spray it off about once a month and re oil it...... Well when I put it under the water in the bath tub, I was amazed at what came out of there...... it was dirty as hell ,,,, totally nasty........ The thing actually turned color... I would recommend if you a K&N,, I would soak it if I were you........
Thanks,, I thought I would share this tid bit of info with youal,,,,,
I usually soak it down with the cleaner after beating it against some pavement and using a toothbrush in the grooves. Let it dry, run water over it for a good while making sure to get every inch and then sometimes repeat. I think the thing that helps the most is beating it, just don't do it too hard

Ive had mine in about a year, thats maybe 6 thousand miles and I havent cleaned it yet. Ive had it out and it didnt look dirty. Should it be cleaned every so often just because?

John,
Years ago, when K&N was mainly a motorcycle item, they advertised that "the dirtier it gets, the better it works!" I have one in my VW that hasn't been cleaned in four years.....and probably never will be.
Just cleaned mine today, After lightly brushing it off with a soft brush I soaked it in the cleaner and let it sit for about 10-15 min. I then got the water hose and rinsed it off real good, let it dry for 30 min. sprayed it with oil, let sit for 30 min. then put it back in my car. To me it runs better clean not dirty. :D
