An early (84-85) O/D unit has found it's way into my '88, Will it work properly without the cable? What needs to be done so it doesn't burn up again? (Was bad upon buying the car) Who know's all the in's and outs of these things? I'm having it rebuilt locally, but need all the facts before starting.
A business called Pipers Corvette rebuild the units and are very knowledgable about the OD units...Look them up and see if they can provide you with some info. The cable driven units are destined for failure
The 1985 computer does not have the kickdown program for 2nd and 3rd gear so I do not think that the transmission will work in the way you want it to outout one of the following.....
1) Upgrade the 85 computer to a later model like the 86-89 '165 and also upgrade the program to any of the $32 or $32b programs with the programing to take advantage of it.
2) Rewire the overdrive switch for manual control sending 12v to the overdrive relay directly.
