Default '89 Gas Gauge Problem

The LED bars for my gas gauge in my '89 coupe does not show the correct measurement. When I fill the tank up it reads full, but as I use the gas the LED bars stays at the 1/4 full level when there is less than 1/4 tank left
(I almost ran out of gas).

Does anyone have any ideas on solving or troubleshooting this problem?

Thanks

Eh, I have similar issues. On mine, the guage either reads 1/2, empty, or full, but never in accordance with how much gas I have. Someone told me it was the reciever? Whatever the sensor reads off to, but then again, they don't know much about Vettes, so who knows.

Its more than likely the float assembly. You can test it by disconnecting the float assembly under the gas filler door and putting 90 ohms of resistance in the circuit, this should make the guage read full. With 45 ohms you should read 1/2.
