Everyone says its good for the transmission.

Certainly provides firm shifts, if thats what you want.

TransGo makes an excellent kit. It's a really involved install, though.

I heard for daily drivers, the shifting is hard and can get quite annoying. That's pretty much the only reason I'm not getting it installed.

I was rushed to pick up my Vette and my installer didn''t have time to realy tweak the part throttle shifts.

While driving it home I found them to be a little harsh and low for my taste so the next day I simply moved the TV cable a few clicks toward the TB and part throttle shift points and firmness was perfect though it still wags the tail nicely on the 1-2 shift at WOT.

Hence, I feel it was one of the best mods done to my Vette to date.

As far as the newer transmissions, I don't really know. But, for the older TH400, I did have a shift kit put in when I had mine rebuilt. When I took the trans in and told them I wanted a shift kit, they said that each kit came with the possibility of 3 different settings, and they recommended the middle setting for the street. Being as intelligent as a soap dish about auto trans, I followed their suggestion and was completely satisfied. The shifts are extremely firm and will chirp the tires on a 72 from 1st to 2nd. You do notice the firmness, but it is not something that you can't live with.

blah! In my '97 Trans Am (same transmission as these right?), I had a shift kit installed, a decently firm one and my God it felt like it was actually doing it's job. On top of that I then did the "firm shift" option on the Hypertech Programmer I had and my friends were all convinced I had a modified manual until they actually looked. Thing chriped in damn near every gear and those riding shotgun got a little jerk at each shift :D Even rolling when it shifted you could feel it, I LOVED IT!

I GOT ONE ON MY AUTO 86. NICE CRISP SHIFTS, JUST LIKE IT LIKE IT. JERKS MY HEAD WHEN IT SHIFTS. FEELS MUCH BETTER. VERY PLEASED WITH IT.
