I am curious on the answers this will get also,,,,, I am thinking I am going to put some 1.6RR on mine soon, but just dont know enough about it.... :banghead:
I am in the process of freshing up my valve train as I type this. I'm going with ...........
1.6RR Pro Magnums from Comp Cams(self aligning)
new springs
retainers
locks
pushrods.
valve seals
My '88 L98 came with guide plates whose function is more to ease the assembly at Bowling Green than it is to guide the pushrods.
Your stock rocker arms are self aligning.
I bought the self aligning style RR to use on my stock 3/8 studs and I am pulling the stock guide plates. I noticed during my teardown that my pushrods where rubbing up against the guide plates.
If you want to use your stock valve covers, which you can, you'll have to lop off your drip tabs and narrow down the bolt channels.
I installed a set of Comp Cams self aligning 3/8 stud 1.6 roller tip rockers #1418-16 on my 89. They are the same heigth as the factory 1.5s so they should fit without any modification to the factory valve covers. If you have factory guide plates (the manual says 90's did not have them) you should also have hardened push rods. I would replace the push rods with a new set to be on the safe side. Dan
They will fit under the stocker covers - you have to drimmel off the drip tabs. But I went with a cool set of Billet Specialities covers while I was in there.
I see the 1417-16 being for a 4.3L engine. I think you'd want 1412-16 for your 350.
Are you dead set on 1.52s? I don't know how much improvement you'll see going with only a rollertip rocker in 1.52 ratio. Modifying the stock valve covers isn't too hard.
If cost is an issue then stick with the 1412-16. If it isn't then you may want to consider....
1301-16: 1.52 pro magnum, full roller, $265
1302-16: 1.60 pro magnum, full roller, $265
hi..
@ scorp508...hmm..what i ve seen the CCA 1417-16 will fit Chevrolet 265-400cui, with centerbolt valve covers, self-aligning...says online catalog at compcams.com, also says at summit
i think, the 1412-16 are the same, but not self aligning....
i want to go with 1.52, since i will run a cam with higher lift, and dont want to get clearance troubles, or such things...
I've been running 1.52 rr Comp Camp Magnum Rockers for over a year and the fit without any issues.
I had heard that the early vette perimiter valve covers can fit the 1.6RRs no problem...its the centerbolts that have problems...
Thank might clear up some confusion!
Edit: Just saw you posted at the same time that you ordered ones that said they would fit centerbolts...Have fun!

Actually you know what, I think summit has it backwards on their site where I looked it up last night. I just looked at compcam's site and you are correct. Its either that or i misplaced the -16 for a -12 after the 1412, that also is a V6 vs. V8 thing. Hmmm.....
ive checked twice, Compcams, and summit, and they say, the CCA-1417-16
fits 87-97 Engines, 305-350cui..
i know, you have way more experience, in parts and engines, but since i have these items ship to Austria..which is not cheap, and takes time, i always check very carefully before ordering...
thank you for your statements, its great to have people who will talk and help
oh, and yes you are right..when swapping some numbers, you come directly to the 4.3ltr engines...tried it, but dont ordered it :D
