Due to a recent clarification by NCCC, Group II cars can remove the Air Pump, however, it cannot be replaced by a eliminator kit similar to the one that is currently being sold by several vendors. The pump can be eliminated, and you can run a shorter belt, which by the way is not possible due to the configuration of the other engine pullies. This is just another dumb discision by the NCCC RCD's.
So I need to know if anyone has "Gutted" the air pump, the car is a '89, if anyone know the procedure on how to gut the pump and still retain the function of the pully please let me know.
On my '87 I just opened it up and broke out all the vanes inside.Blow it clean and bolt it back on.You don't touch the bearings so it still rotates alright , it just doesn't pump.
Just break the vanes off and pull out the little arms inside the drum that held them on, here's a pic before I did anything showinging what I'm talking about, if the link works. http://www.boomspeed.com/steveh/DSCF01761.JPG
