Do airbags have a life expectancy? Do you need to replace them after 5 years, or 25, or 50 or..... Have never seen anything about it but would assume that they would have a shelf life of some sort.
I seem to recall once seeing on the news that the life of them was 10 years. Of course, that is when they first came out and the new one might be different. Something about the chemicals that 'blow up' might not be effective after that.
:eek: i hope it's not 10yrs my vette is 13. oh and just to add to the question what years were the air bags unsafe. i mean by the ones that used to explode?
I also posted this question over on the NCRS board to see what response they would have.
Generaly it was thought that the airbag in the car should outlast the replacement supply maintained by GM :) So when it does come time to replace, there won't be any to replace it with.
For what it's worth, Land Rover calls for replacing airbags and pre-tensioners every ten years on their trucks. As far as anyone doing this is another matter....
