Default Torque converter recommendations???

Looks like I may have to replace a potentially bad converter. For the most part the motor is stock (see sig). I have no future plans for modifying the engine, as I will probably go to a C-5/C-6 within the next year or so. I have a 3.07 Dana 36 to replace the stock 2.59 rear, I should have that swapped out when the time allows. However, I figure if i have to replace the converter, I might as well make the most of it. I do run Auto-X and ocassionally go to the dragstrip. I'd prefer to keep it as streetable as possible.
Any thoughts or recommendations for a replacement converter?
TIA!

I would say 2200-2500 would be good, but that's just me.

I put a 2500 stall converter in my car and during day to day driving I hardly know its there, but at the drag strip it made a very noticible difference :yesnod:

For a 96, youd be best off with like 2400-2600 for a regularly driven car.

Higher if this was a drag car.

I have a 96 with 3.73 rear and a super yank 3500. With you going to a 3.07 rear and not a 3.73 rear I would go with a super thruster 3500 stall. Why because the super yank has an str rating of 1.6 and the super thruster has an str rating of 2.5 so it will act like you have a bigger gear. Also it drives really well around town. Also you stock str is 1.8 and going to a yank converter you will drop 20 pounds off the flywheel. Go to there web page http://www.converter.cc/ hope this helps.

you may want to call a "professional" and at least talk it over with them, using your specs and camshaft to find a good stall. I went with a 2800 stall (which really only flashes to 2600 or so) and it's a lot more streetable than I thought it would be.

In other words, don't get scared into being conservative with your stall speeds. Why spend $500+ on a good converter if you don't get a little more ambitious with it? I personally went with a 9.5" Edge Racing Converter from california (see their website or find one of their ebay auctions); and I'm very pleased with it. After about a week of driving, I don't even notice the difference in stall speeds anymore.
