Alright I've read through the archives and I'm leaning towards the Flowmaster 50 series. What do you guys think? I've got Hooker headers, no cats, and stock catback which I think is hurting my 396 with ton-o-NOS. I'm looking for something that will:
- flows great
- sounds QUIET!
- has little or no resonance
- sounds like a dual exhaust pickup truck when it idles(I love that sound)
- 3" for possible future upgrade of pipe when I add the supercharger
I know I'm not being easy to please but any thoughts and comments would be helpful.
It will not be quiet or have no resonance. The Corsa is the only one I have ever heard that did not have resonance, but it certainly does not sound like a dual exhaust pickup. If you want it quiet, leave it stock as I doubt it is hurting you as much as you may think.
First off. The LT-1 exhaust is not hurting you as much as you think. I measured 3 inch ID in one axis, and 2.75 inch ID in another axis (yes they are somewhat oval shaped in some points) where the cats go into the resonator.
The bottleneck is the mufflers, which is what it looks like you are leaning towards replacing.
Corsa is an entire system, while quiet on a stock car with cats. I have heard it is significantly louder (some even said too loud) on a car without cats.
That said, your only option is the Dynomax Super Turbo made for the Corvette LT-1. I do not know if they are still made. I am not talking about your cheapo dynomax super turbo replacement, but they make one that even has the same rectangle tips.
It is not a straight through design, but apparently flows more than stock. Some people have had problems with it rusting through in a few years. Its supposed to have a lifetime warranty though. Read the reviews of it in the corvetteforum reviews section.
The Dynomax super turbos are too loud with a 3" exhaust, Hooker 2151s and the Lt1 tip. Got them on my 89 383. READ loud (some would be happy) and much resonance.
Well guys, I'm leaning towards the Flowmaster 50 series and weld on a bracket and some tips. For under $200 I don't think I can go wrong with this setup.
Anybody have any thoughts on the Flowmaster 50 series......like will they fit? Haven't measured yet.

Again,...i am not talking about the cheapo $30 dynomax super turbo mufflers, I am talking about their LT1 mufflers. I may have described them wrong which is my fault.
They specifically make an LT1 muffler that is not too loud and flows better than the stock mufflers.
Go to the reviews section of this forum and read about it. I dont remember people complaining about any resonance with them.....
This is perhaps a little self serving, but if you are looking at a 3" system, one possibility would be my 3" B&B resonator. Your ultimate system would be 3" pipes with no mufflers.
This makes sense to me since a lot of guys have gone the muffler eliminator route while keeping the resonator on stock system.
Don't know how it would sound, but it ought to flow good. My resonator is '97 vintage which I am sure maintains it 3" size. Save you the weight of 2 mufflers also.

Not to mention it, but, that was also with a 3" X pipe. Why in the heck would anybody put $800 in an exhaust and put $30 mufflers on it.
Give me a break, you might do that, but I wouldn't.
But I would tell you this, if the darn things were more quiet than the $75 ones ... I'd put them on there.
$60 and happy sounds better than $150 and not happy. Is my money vs happy/not happy math wrong.
What you are looking for Maganflows will deliver, and the polished stainless steel looks great on our c'4s. Check 'em out before you buy anything else.
I had muff elims for 3 years, and Magnaflows for last 3 months, more complements in 3 months than over the 3 years,
