Okay, today i got on it a bit, about 4500 rpm. The outside temp is about mid 50's here. My a/c is on auto about 70 degrees. Right as I let off on the gas, i noticed a really strong antifreeze smell, then it started pouring fog out of the vents. It goes away at cooler temps but right now it is pumping pure fog. Anyone had this before?
It has been running fine. I've had the heat on before with no probs. It was this one time it went a little haywire after i stomped on it. If i bypass the core do i still get heat, or should i just wear a sweater while driving this winter?
you wont have heat if you bypass the core. If you choose to have heat without replacing the core, add bars leaks... while I'm sure I'll get criticised for that additive, it works and it's a heck of a lot cheaper and faster than pulling that @!#$!@$% heater core out... trust me on that one... it took me 2 days to pull mine, and I ran bars leaks for about 18 months before I did it with no problems.
I will try the bars leak. although i am quite worried about flooding the car with coolant... I am curious, that its only a week or so after i pulled the TB and cleaned it that this issue has popped up. I wonder if i didnt screw up some hoses somewhere. I'm awful new at all this. But it is definitely a fog machine when i turn on any kind of heat so the diagnosis seems rather apparent. Anyone have any suggestions on what manufacturer I should go with to buy a heater core? Ecklers has one for $50.
Oh, and one more thing. Has anyone ever actually been witness to the demise of a heater core? I am quite sure a i heard a definite "POP" right before the fog rolled in. just trying to trouble shoot a bit..... thanks.
