Just looking for some history. I've used MSD in the past & been fairly happy but hey the 300+ advertisments say they are better?!? I'm sure ads never lie...
Wow, amazing! I was just thinking about this last night! From the archives, you do see a number of people that have had problems with the MSD boxes but no real mention of the Accel product. Here's a TTT for your question.
When my neighbor had it in his Grand Sport, it got water in it and died.
He gave it to me and I repaired it -- about four resistors and a diode.
I then sealed the circuit board with a commercial product -- Accel claims it is sealed at the factory, but I don't believe it.
It works fine, but I don't like CD ignition systems.
I put a coil and ignition module from a '96 LT1/LT4 in my '92. I think this is a much better all-around ignition system.
The only advantage I see to a CD system is in the extreme RPM range -- greater than about 6500 rpm. And, they don't seem to be very reliable.
If you really want a killer ignition system, go multi-coil.

I had a 300+ for about 4 years until last year when I switched to a Digital 6 from MSD. Both boxes worked great.
I debated analog MSD or the new Accel 300+... I went with the Accel 300+ until it started to melt my distributor cap enough to where the ground would disconnect and the screws wouldn't tighten down enough (kind of the same problem, since a ground wraps around one of the coil screws). Anyway, there was a hugely noticable difference in idle/low RPM quality (in favor of the CD system) even against my strong factory setup. But, I would be generous with the dialectric grease and use a new cap to head off any connection problems... otherwise you'll find yourself stranded somewhere.
(I actually kept the old coil setup in my storage bin in case the 300+ crapped out on me). But again, it was a connection/heat and not the unit itself. When I go back to C/D ignition, I think I'll go Crane though just to see.
Thanks, good tip. I actually orderd a new cap & rotor w/ the 300 yesterday. Should be here tomorrow... Not that the car is even close to being ready to start... :-(
By the way, anyone have experience in TPIS big mouth & large intake runner install. I started bolting the runners on last night & realized I can't get at the bottom bolt due to valve cover clearance. But... I also can't remove the valve cover also due to clearance, which means if I put the tubes on first, then I wouldn't be able to install the valve covers!!! Talk about a Catch 22!!
