Default Dual Mass flywheel options.

What are the options in replacing the stock dual mass flywheel on my 90? I have the engine out for rebuilding and would like to change the flywheel for better performance if I can. :yesnod:

Their are a few aftermarket aluminum flyweels on the market (Fidanza is one). I'm not aware of any Dual mass replacements. Be advised that going away from the dual mass to a single mass will cause gear rattle in the tranny. It wont harm it, just makes some noise

For one reason it is a GM part. That will explain alot right there.

The other is ..the part itself is made up of more than just one single part.
It is much heavier than the single mass flywheels which aids in throttling down the gear noise that is synonomous with the singlemass wheels.
The diffrence in weight between the 2 you might be wondering??

Try 30+ pounds!
The Fidanza which I had installed a month ago weighs 11~ pounds.
The old GM dual mass weighed ~48 pounds!!!

My car is much noisier at lower RPMS...but a helluva lot more responsive in gear snatching.

You guys got me interested in the Fidanza dual mass aluminum flywheel. What about the weights from the OEM dual mass flywheel?

Anybody have one of these?

It seems we have two threads going about the same subject. Sorry about that.

Fidanza makes a single mass flywheel.
OEM GM is a dual mass flywheel.

As for weights...we used the counter balance weight that came with the Fidanza single mass flywheel. Works fine.
I feel if we hadn't ..the motor would have probably vibrated right out of the car!

Can't help you on the weights of the dual mass flywheel.

I'd like to have the lighter fw, but the noise penalty is way too much for me to live with day to day. I'd think it would make the car harder to sell as most people would cringe when they hear it, if that matters. Ebay has sotck fw's for cheap pretty often.

I'm getting ready to swap my spec alumium out for their steel single mass. I have the orignal dual mass and the spec alumium single mass that I need to sell. Interested?
