I realize another immature teenager asks this question daily, but i am, in addition to immature, fairly naive as of yet with regards to engine performance. I am, as stated previously, a 17 year old high school student with an extremely low budget for my car. I just replaced about 400 dollars worth of equipment so it is even less now. With my current cash resevoir being about 400 dollars, what can I do to make the best dollar to performance gain. Thanks
There is an unfortunate issue with that idea. My brother has a 66' stang and got a flowmaster exhaust setup for it. My parents HATE the noise it produces, so in turn, i am not allowed to do any exhaust modifications until i get it out of the house which wont be for 4 years, college...any other suggestions?
I would then start saving for new heads, cam, and intake setup.
Superram intake is what I prefer, check out Lingenfelter.com. You would need a good cam to go with it, but its best to wait to install all of this at once. At least youll get an idea of the cost. Sometimes they can be found on ebay cheaper.
Best heads are AFR 195, expensive though. You may want to try to find some 113 heads (88-91 vettes) and use those instead with the SR.
you would then have to upgrade the exhaust, because it chokes the hell out of the motor
But maybe you can talk your parents into the fact that a good performing exhuast doesn't always equal alot of noise. Thats just what most people make them to be. I think Corsa exhausts are supposed to be high performance at a tolerable noise level. Just something to think about...you have plenty of time...and as terrible as it is, 400$, as you probably know, don't fix much when you say the word "Corvette" after an item...
Owning a Corvette already puts you above your peers. That in itself shows style, individuality and appreciation for American machinery at it's finest. Your Vette will already out accelerate and out handle most anything made in riceland that your peers may have.
But the car is still just short of 20 years old and everything for a Corvette is expensive, from tires to performance as well as replacement parts. Save your $$$ for when you'll need it and enjoy your cool ride. Give the babes one for ol' Big Jim.
Ok guys. Ill save my money for the inevitable break downs that will come. Thanks
Good choice. You simply do not have enough right now to make any kind of performance impact. Enjoy it and feel confident you will have a little on the side for when it needs something. If you haven't already spend a little of that money and perform a complete tuneup, perhaps by yourself to get acquainted with the car. :seeya
