This is my story. (94 LT1) Low coolant light and check engine light would come on when the car was cool, along with rough idling and the lights would turn off when the car would warm up and run fine. I took it to the shop to get the coolant vacumed and re-filled and the car was fine for a few days. Today the check engine light came on along with the low coolant light and the car began to stutter like it wanted to turn off. I noticed the coolant temp. was fluctuating too. (down to 80 to 160 just going crazy). I want to check the codes but everywhere I go they tell me the check engine light has to stay on. Is that true. Let me know what you guys think it is and how I can fix it please.
Could it be the O2 SENSOR.
An intermittent check engine lite indicates an intermittent problem. You can pull the codes to see what is happening. If this happens only when the engine is cold and then runns better and you never get any lites when warm there is something wrong with your open loop warm up cycle. Disconnect battery or pull ECM fuse to clear past codes then the next time this happens pull the codes. Good Luck!
The codes should remain stored even if the light goes out
:iagree: They are called "soft codes" as the problem disappears within a certain time period. The ecm still records the code in the memory eventho the " light " goes out.
