NEED HELP. IGNITION KEY WILL NOT TURN TO START/RUN POSITION :mad
I CAN GET IT TO TURN BACKWARDS TO THE ACC. POSITION, BUT NOT FOREWARD TO START THE %^&* THING.. :confused: ANY IDEAS, REALLY DON'T WANT TO SPEND $140.00 FOR SWITCH AND TWO KEYS, IF THATS NOT THE PROBLEM.. THANKS :flag
ALSO THE KEY IS HARD TO TURN BACKWARDS AND TURNS FOREWARD ONLY ENOUGH TO DISENGAGE STEERING WHEEL LOCK THEN STOPS.

It is possible that the ignition switch on the column is loose or damaged or the metal rod from inside the column to the switch is bent or binding. Take the carpeted cover under the dash off and look at the top of the column halfway between the wheel and the firewall. The ignition switch is up there with a rod from the steering wheel attached it. You will have to loosen and drop the colum from the dash hangar to get a good look but it is worth checking here before diving into disassembling steering column.
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP. TOOK IT APART FOUND THAT ON THE SIDE OF THE KEY SWITCH THERE IS A LITTLE SLIDE LIKE AREA THE THE LOCK PIN RIDES UP AND OVER. IT HAD A LITTLE BURR IN IT STOPPING THE KEY FROM TURNING. TOOK MY DREMMEL TOOL AND TINY BIT AND RE-GROUND THE SLIDE AND WORKS AS GOOD AS NEW.
NOW MY ONLY PROBLEM IS GOING BACK TOGETHER. WITH THE TELESCOPING SHAFT I CANT PUSH IN THE SPRING TO REPLACE THE LOCKING CLIP. PLUS SOME NYLON WASHERS AND A BLACK PLASTIC BUSHING FELL OUT AND NOT SURE THE ORDER THEY GO BACK IN. ANDY IDEAS? THANKS AGAIN ALL.
go to AutoZone and get a 'Lock Cam Compression' tool - $9.00 (best i've found and works well) - as far as the order, its "washer/rubber busing/washer"... if you need instructions i have several , just email me and i'll send... plus pic of columb... if it will help
