just sold my 89 ( the new owner got a hell of a deal) i knew the heater core was gone because i by passed it then the water pump went out sooo anyway the car sat here a while and i sold it as is ,well the new owner calls me ripping my **** about the heads being fried and his mechanic says i knew all about it, the car still started and ran fine( i filled the system to move the car around).................question is should i have known or how could i have known if heads were shot ????TIA
Re: water pump and heater core question (glassvette)
1) Bypassing the heater core has nothing to do with the heads
2) Unless this "mechanic" has torn the motor down, he can't make a determination that the "heads are shot"
3) It may have a blown gasket, but again, that has nothing to do with bypassing the heater core.
4) If the heads are cracked, you would either have water in the cylinders, in the exhaust, or in the oil.. it has to go someplace and that's the only way you would know you had a problem. However, a blown head gasket CAN exhibit the same symptom.
Best advice, tell him to check with another mechanic.
