I am going to be doing a C5 front brake upgrade on my 94 LT1. I will be purchasing all the components from Superior Chevrolet. Is there anything else that I need aside from the non GM special brackets? Is there anything else that I should know before I do this swap? It seems like it should be pretty easy.
This is as a pretty simple swap, get your brackets from Ed Salinas and you'll be good to go.You're biggest decision will be what type of pads to put on. If you want comfort and smooth braking put on ceramic pads, they are super quiet, very low dusting and provide a nice braking feel. If you want stop on a dime performance, try the Hawk pads. This mod took me 3hrs to do .
I just did mine and it was pretty easy. Think about a set of speed bleeders. Makes fluid changes a breeze. Bought my rotors from NAPA and not sure I like them yet. I'll know when I autocross them next month. Got my brackets from Ed Salinas as well.
Getting ready to do my C5 Brake upgrade this weekend. It was recommended to me to get Stainless Steel Brake Hoses as well as the Brake Bias spring. I figure, since I need to bleed the brakes, I might as well put these on too. I also went with the Speed Bleeders for both the front and rear calipers. The C5 Calipers use a different bleeder than our late C4's. Make sure if you get them, you get both sizes. As for pad/rotor combination, a lot of the C5 owners like the ceramic pads by Delco. Superior Chevrolet has the best price. As for the rotors, I went with the Dura Stop rotors by Delco as well. Again, Superior Chevrolet had the best price on them. A lot of guys in the C5 section are using these as well.
I was told that the C5 brakes will only fit behind the A-Molds or C5 rims. A couple of people have them behind their sawblades (they just fit apparently). Don't know exactly about the 90 rims. Check with Ed Salinas (member here). He makes the brackets a lot of us are using and may be able to answer your question.
