Default callaway

Does anyone know what specs a callaway vette has. I look on the net and found a bunch of tech articles but nothing on type of crank rods or pistonds they used. Even the casting and cam shaft specifications would be nice. So far I know its a 7.5:1 CR and they used garret turbos. Im trying to get as much tech on the engine as possible.

Word on the street is John Lingenfelter is the one who designed, and built this to start with. Callaway tried to drive it, but from what I've heard people say he was to scared :U . Lingenfelter had to step in.

That will teach you to listen to "the word." Callaway designed and built the car. LPE built some short blocks for the car, according to Callaway they didnt' make it thru the dyno testing and a Callaway block was used. LPE says otherwise. Only two people really know for sure. Credit where its due, Callaway designed the turbo car and fabricated it, JL drove it to its top speed. BTW Reeves was in England at the time the car made its historic run. I doubt he was scared to drive it.

Youre right. The car did have a 7.5:1 CR. The heads were stock aluminum pieces, no porting. The cam and intake were stock L98 units was well.

I just looked at my owners manual. All its says on build specs is

Crankshaft
Delete- The crankshaft is cast iron and is supported by five main bearings
Replace with- The crankshaft is forged steel and is supported by five main bearings.

Pistons the same delete the cast, insert the forged.

254 mph? :skep:
let's see,
375 hp ZR1 goes 175.
254/175=1.45
1.45^3=3.06
3.06*375=1147 hp

or

1147/880=1.3
30% more aerodynamic then a ZR1

I say :bs

Why do you call B.S.??

The 254 mph speed is dead nuts dude... The Sledgehammer held the record for a production based vehicle for a god-awful amount of years...Not B.S., but fact (and well documented fact at that).

You haven't been around the Corvette hobby long have you? Why don't you call TRC and ask what the speed record for the track is, or simply go to http://www.google.com and look up Callaway Sledgehammer Corvette and see what you turn up.

PS. Id put that flag away...its going to be humbling. 254.76mph to be exact.

What garbage  The car went 254.76 mph - FACT.

Lingenfelter did develop a few engines that did not make into the final product - it was a Callaway engine that powered the car - FACT.

Reeves turned the driving duties over to J. Lingenfelter - but not for any reasons of being scared - FACT.

It is surely a car that has gone down in the history books

The sledgehammer was a "one off". It didn't have the 380hp motor that the productions cars came with. Anybody know how much hp it took to get to 254?

880hp....Im not sure of the torque though. Im sure it was alot :yesnod:

Funny thing the car had more power available, but aerodynamics wouldn't allow the car to be driven any faster. Lingenfelter said the car was float about the equivilant of two traffic lanes at 250mph.

Well yes it wont take long to realize what this car was all about and the amazing performance this car was capable of. No doubt the parts in this car were not cheap. You ever price a set of jesel roller rockers or any of the other high performance parts this corvette was built with. In any case it managed to keep a high speed record for over a decade. As a side note anyone know which car took the sledgehammer out of the top slot in 1999 I believe it was. I give respect to any car that could have a 10 year old tech live for so long. Makes you think how much calloway was ahead of its time.

I will provide a link for reading on whoever doesnt know or doubts this amazing feat.

http://www.madwheels.com/sledgehammer/

Also somehow this question turned into a sledgehammer rant. I honestly just wanted to know what the average 1991 twin turbo callaway parts were since I could never afford many of the parts put into the sledgehammer.

Just some FYI Callaway charges about 20k to rebuild a short block. Thats alot but the parts alone in the standard b2k would come to 10k.
