on thrus morning it was cold about 40 and my vert did not start. it would just crank and crank. so i sprayed a little starting spray and it would fire up but then stall. then i keep doing the spray it start then stall. there was no fuel gettin to the injectors. so i gave up afer about 20 mins and came back out at 3 in the afternoon and tyred and boom fired right up with no probs. runs great like nothing is wrong.
i dont think it could be my plugs because its turning over when i use the starting spray but i could be wrong
i drive it every day and it only does this when its cold
i need to fix this soon because a cold front is commin this week. any help would be really great
A friend of mine had an 84. He had similar problem except his would not start when the engine was hot. He could spray starting fluid into the intake and it would fire right up. There was very little gas coming out of the injectors when the engine was cranking but as soon as he hit it with the spray the engine would fire and a good stream of gas would come out of the injector. I looked over his wiring diagram for the car and found that the fuel pump relay (mounted on the firewall) would run the fuel pump on start up but as soon as the engine starts it switches over to the oil pressure switch to provide current to the pump. His relay was not putting current to the fuel pump on start up. That is why when the starting fluid kicked over the engine the oil pressure increase would close the circuit and send current to the pump and it would run. He replaced the fuel pump relay and the car had no problems after that. I would bet that your problem is in that circuit of the oil pressure switch and the fuel pump relay. Neither one is very expensive and are easy to change.
I don't recall exactly where it is but I think I remember it being on the firewall just to the left of center just behind the engine. Maybe one of the 84 owners on this board can give you a better idea than I am doing. My friend sold the car last week so I can't look at it to give you an exact location. One way to determine if you are getting current to the pump is to have someone listen for a clicking buzzing noise at the gas tank when you are trying to start the engine. If they don't hear anything then the pump is not getting power. Remove the air filter so you can see the injectors. When you crank the engine and there is only a dribble of fuel then you have a fuel supply problem, but if there is a good stream of gas then it sounds like an electrical problem. Maybe a problem with the ECM then. If you don't have a manual for your car, save the money and get one. I just bought a used one for my 90 on e-bay for $40.00. This is money well spent. I hope you find the solution.
i just whent to nappa and got a relay and still nothing..... but the wires going to my harness are all frayed so i taped them up and tryed it agin. and still nothing.
im not even getting a drip out of the injectors. not even with starting spary
i had my dad listen for the pump to come on and it did....
im starting to get scared that i might have to take my baby to the shop
:(
Go to the Crossfire website and register so you can post in the forum. There is a lot of information on that site on that injection system. Someone there may be able to provide a lot more help.
