help with MSD
Sorry, but I think that is "bogus". I am using one and have had no problems, but I haven't been using it that long. My friend has had one on his stock opti for over 50k and it is still working fine. Also, I didn't know that the opti had a "high voltage side"? The ignition coil does though. Just my experience!
I had 3 MSD Digital 6 Plus units fail. Had to get the car towed once(Didnt know why my car died, the MSD was a week old). The second time it left me broken down on a busy road at the bottom of a blind hill AT night...And the third time i bypassed it, and the next day took it straight back to the store.
MSD will tell you a unit is easily bypassable and should never leave you stranded. Its just the places it might leave you stranded (construction area, no berm, rush hour traffic in an urban area) are not very convenient.
Im lucky my car wasnt destroyed.
Ever wonder why road racers run 2 MSD boxes with a toggle switch, with all their concern about every ounce of weight..... MSD = Might Suddenly Die.
I also had a brand new MSD 8.5mm wire spark arc against my water pump housing. I had to wrap the area it arc'd in electrical tape.
All that said, I have had heard the MSD 6AL boxes are more reliable on our cars and I had a 1994-vintage MSD 6 box on my 1972 Pontiac Lemans 400
that is still working to this day...
Just be careful out there.
