Default Mid Year C4's

It seems to me looking at all the 60' times and the 1/4 mile times, that the 89, 90, 91 year C4's really run strong for the amount of HP they produced.... Is it the overall set up of the car? Like my 90 stock produced 250HP and with minor bolt on's will run mid 13's and the LT-1 with 300HP with minor bolt ons will also run mid 13's... Is it the TQ, that gets it there or what... By no means am I trying to degrade the LT1, so dont think that, I know how these threads go.... I am just looking for a logical answer.....My next vette will have a LT1 in it and the one after that will have a LT4 in it. I am going to get the feel of all of them

Although L98's are famous for their huge torque, an LT1 produces nearly as much but at a higher rpm. Most would agree its the very low end torque that helps the L98 get out of the hole, so your assumption is well founded.

Indeed the L98 has lower low end torque with a quicker drop off at higher RPM compared with the LT1.

But a typical bone stock L98 Vette will run say 14.0sec and the typical LT1 will run 13.5sec. Of course individual cars vary as do local "test" conditions so we see quite a variation in data here.

Indeed that 50chp difference or so between engines should make a difference of about 5mph and .5 sec in the time slips, under the same conditions. And this is what I mostly have observed at Raceway Park over the past several years.

The difference in feel is that the L98 launches harder but the LT1 pulls longer in each gear.

The extended RPM's that the LT1 gives assists it at the top end. You are staying in the upper power band longer in each gear..

From my own observations I've seen more LT1s hang around the 13.7ish area before things are done to them. The LT1 is already a much more optimized overall package to begin with that doesn't have any major restrictions in comparison. Once the rediculous restrictions on the L98 are removed there are huge gains to be had.
