Took the vette to the radio shop they pulled the radio out and said they would check it and call me tommorow. If the radio is bad,do you have to get all new amp and speakers along with the radio,If its the amplifers and speakers do I have them fixed or get new. F/L speaker static and B/L speaker nothing coming out at all. Need ideas
the money you spend trying to repair the outdated blows system you can install a way nicer sounding system that is more reliable and sounds sooooo much better... at about half the cost of the blows repairs

Re: Boise Radio question (torchred89)
I have replaced may amps in the bose systems, if you can just get amps.
If the radio is "bad" then everything should work again and you shouldn't have to replace any anp/speaker enclosures. I would recommend removing both rear speakers and trying the RR with the LR wiring to see if it works and mor than likely just get a amp for the LR. Luckly it is a rear because the fronts require you to take the door panel off and that is not especially fun. Let me know what they say I have troubleshot more of these than most.
Although I do agree with 89 gutting the system with a new in-dash and speakers, external amp optional, is probably going to be cheaper in the long run, since one amp goes there will more than likely be more in the future, not to mention that a new system will be more reliable and sound better a good system with a new CD player and speakers can run you about $400 installed chasing the bugs in a bose system can easily cost you double that.
Here is a nice radio installed that has CD and tape and is only $250 new from crutchfield. BTW I installed this one myself. :)

Don't waste alot of money fixing this system. Either watch ebay, post a WTB message on the classifieds in the forum, or junk it and put in a new system. I bought 3 speakers with amps on Ebay for 50 bucks to get me by for now. These older systems are not long lasting, they sound great when everything works, but not worth spending the money to keep fixing. Look on Ecklers to get an idea what it will cost you to keep it running.
Bose company will rebuild them for 75.00 each and that includes replacing the amp and speaker if needed. I think you can reach them at bose.com for toll free number and address.

Had the same problem with my 89 and spent some money trying to fix it with other parts. Then I found the Doctor. Doc Don will rebuild an amp for you at a cost of $60 each. I cannot recall the warranty, but you can find this on his website at: http://www.doctordons.com/. I personally like the Bose system and fixing it using your labor will not bankrupt you. Call Doc Don before you trash your system!

I thought Boise was in Idaho???? :D
Yeah me too.
I believe just about all my Bose amps were toast when I purchased my 90 Vert.
Rather than waste the money on the Bose I opted to replace the entire system with an aftermarket system.
I decided to keep the Bose speakers since iv had such great luck with Bose home speakers, and im glad I kept em, cause the system sounds great.
I just removed the amps, and ran new speaker wire from my Rockford Fosgate 800watt amp to all four speakers. Worked great. Im use a Sony CD player for the head unit.
But...I really like BOSE. I too am getting ready to send my head unit off for restoration. The thought of spending $800, or more, to obtain good sound does not thrill me. But I do want a "period" car. And in 1985, it was Bose. So I'll keep her Bose.

Does that amp handle 2 ohm impedance of stock Bose speakers?
Most receiver stock amps don't like that, but yours might be able stand it.
Car speakers impedance is normally 4 Ohms.

You’re absolutely correct, the Bose speakers are 2 ohm speakers, and this is exactly why I picked the Rockford amp to drive the Bose speakers.
The specs on the amp are –Stable down to 2 ohms- wasn’t sure what their definition of –stable- was so I picked an amp with twice the amount of power needed just in case. ;)
The system has been in place for over 2 years and still going strong
$616 Dollars to fix old system thats $316 to rebuild amps and speakers and $300 labor or $852 for all new Al[pine system Haven't made up my mind up yet
