Default 93 Hardtop for 87--What needed? Please help!

My son recently bought a hardtop from a 93 to use on his 87. His contacts so far haven't been able to tell him what he needs to install it.

If anyone could help me/him with the parts numbers for the latches and anything else needed, I would be grateful.

Thank you! :chevy :flag :chevy :flag :chevy :flag

I don't have any part #'s, but the brackets on the windshield header are different, as are the brackets where the softtop's frame pivots, and the attachment points in the rear tonnau cover.

Check out this post: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=690627

Did he get these brackets (they attach the hardtop to the car's "B" pillar):

Good luck (and maybe someone else can help with the P/N's).

I just recently went through all of this on my 86. The link shows you all the right pictures. I got alot of the parts from Dan at "Just Corvettes"
(questions@justcorvettes.com) He new exactly what was needed. He sent me the windsheild lower plastic with the holes in the right place as well as the top windsheild attachments with bolts. The key peices were the side brackets that the vert top bolts to. If you notice in the pic in the link the bottom of the bracket has an "L" shape. He was expensive, but those were key peices.

The decklid is another matter. Our decklids (early) do not have the receiver to accept the top Rr bolts. I got around this by fabbing half inch bolts to have the same shape as the vert latch pins (the pins mounted to the soft top) They latch in our existing receiver, than i install the hard top and bolt it down with some large washers and half inch nuts.
This works pretty good except I can't snug them down as tight as I would like because the pressure overcomes the latch and it pops out. It still works well enough to make the car feel stiffer and keep the water out.

I got lucky recently and scored a whole new style decklid in ebay for $41 bucks! I was prepared to drive accross the state to pick this thing up, but this guy shipped it for $20 bucks! I had it painted, but still haven't put it on. Its a total diferent design than ours and looks to be more convienient to release the softtop as well as a pushbotton to release the lid.

I have noticed on ebay a number of wrecked vettes being parted from time to time. Keep an eye open and be patient. Eventually you will find all the peices. If someone is parting a 90 up vert, email them and ask for specific parts. I also was told that the coupe has the same windsheild pillar setup to mount the removable top as is needed for the vert hardtop. I haven,t got close enough to one to be sure, but maybe someone else can chime in.

I intend to write a teck article on this subject one day complete with pics of the required peices and the removed peices. I may be able to get part #'s for these things because they may still be available through GM, just not as a kit.

Until then, be patient. Find a nice place to store the top, and start collecting parts.

You can email me with questions. I'll be glad to help.

severe-1 and chaos on wheels, I am grateful. I sent the information to my son who told me this is exactly what he needs, at least to be smart enough to ask vendors for the right parts. I am anxious for him to get everything squared away as getting a hardtop on his Vette is something he has wanted to do for months.
