You would be wise to use a trickle charger on the battery, so that it doesnt die.

Lead acid batteries self discharge about 1% every 24 hours and slightly higher than that connected in a car due to leakage current. Lead acid batteries don't like sitting doing nothing and lead sulphate collects on the battery plates. Lead sulphate is a good insulator and when the plates are covered, you have a door stop! If you have a battery charger, buy an interval timer and charge your battery through it by setting it to its lowest time interval, usually 15 minutes each day. This will keep your battery charged. Do not leave your battery just sitting there even disconnected!!!!

This the best explaination yet! I once flushed all the acid out with distilled water to prep a battery for long term (4yrs) storage. What a PITA! After all that, the darn thing lasted about 6 months after returning to service with fresh acid.
