Hi Guys. I'm a first time vette owner and I love my 1993 Coupe. However, I have this intermitnet problem I'm hoping this forum can help with. The Security Light flashes, the SYS light flashes, and the ASR Service light comes on all at once when driving (typically when I hit a bump). Once this happens, when I shutdown the engine and go to restart, it cranks but won't turn-over. Seems like the fuel flow is halted. If the car sits for 20 or 30 minutes it starts fine. Dealership can not reproduce the problem and there are no codes stored. They want to shotgun the repairs by changing the Body Control Module (BCM), then hunting for a short in the steering column. Its all very pricey. I don't mind spending the money but they are giving me no assurances that these attempts will fix the problem. Anyone have a similar experience? Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Regards
Joe

Re: Help!! SYS light and engine won't fire. (joeg626)
At first I was thinking it was a bad ground. But the car sitting for 1/2 wouldn't fix a ground problem. I think you will have to go to the basics. When this happens again, put a fuel pressure guage on the schrader valve. Then with key on, pressure should be up around 40-45 psi. If that's ok, then check for spark while someone cranks it over by pulling several plug wires (one a a time) and grounding them looking for spark. Air+fuel+spark= run. I know it's the basics, but doing it yourself is a lot cheaper than letting the dealer rape you. Post back with the results.

Ittlfly has good suggestions. You need to test when the car won't start to find out the cause. Engines need, fuel, spark (and at the right time), and air to run. You need to find which are missing. Along with fuel pressure and testing for spark, I would recommend that you put a low power 12v light bulb on a pulled injector plug and see if it pulses when cranking which shows that the injectors are being pulsed by the ECM. My money is on an intermittent ECM!
