95 LT1 auto car. What gears work the best with an automatic? The goal is to get improved acceleration off the line. Loss of top end is acceptible to a point. What would be a good choice for new gears? The car is mainly used for cruising and some weekend trips.
Can the computer be retuned to the new gears so the the speedo and all the fancy stuff still works acurately?
I had 3.07's and installed 3.73's in my '95 LT1 Auto, had the computer reflashed to sync speedo, etc. Terrific accleration performance gains, have not had her past 140 mph since the change so I still do not know what top end loss has occured.
Had the work done, cost for all was about $1,200. Best mod I've done, it's like adding 40 rwhp. Tires smoke off the line (need to practice launches), tires break loose hitting 2nd and chirp at 3rd. Probably time to repalce my rear Firehawks with drag radials.

3.73 is a good choice, especially if you go to the track a lot. A better choice for more street driving would be the 3.45's.
I have the 3.45's and have better acceleration (1.70 60'times) and out on the highway it isn't too bad, although I don't use this car for road trips too much, that's what the six speed car is for.
