Default Service ASR light

Had the Service ASR light come on when driving my 93. I parked the car, turned it off, then tried to restart it. It would start for a second, then die. Anybody had this happen to them and what's the solution? I have this bad feeling it's going to be expensive.

Oh yes, one more thing. The message, "SYS", flashes on the speedo display.

Thanks

The "SYS" usually indicates an electrical related problem. In most cases its a weak battery.

For the Service ASR, I get it as well, but mine does it for a specific reason that I caused. I cut the tach filter off to get my tach to work after doing the LTCC conversion.

As long as that light is on, your ASR won't work.

If the battery is the only problem, I'll be ecstatic. But the fact that it starts for a moment, then dies? I've never had that happen with a car that needed a battery. It usually just didn't start.

I did a search on past posts and others who have had this problem have either had to replace the ECM or some other electrical glitch.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it!

The only time I have had the ASR lihgt come on is after a brake change and was low on fliud, but I also had the antilock light on, once the fluid was replaced no more lights.

A buddy of mine who is a GM Tech says it's very rare to have to replace the ECM, most that do are unneccessary.

Yes, that is the first thing I did was top off the brake fluid. Didn't make a difference. I believe you are correct in that the ABS light also comes on when the fluid is low.

I'm going to have the battery checked tomorrow. One of the few parts I haven't replaced on this car yet :)
