Default Got my 12, time to start modding...

Freebees first naturally. I hear that the LT4 PCM is tuned pretty good from the factory and the exhaust is not that restrictive so I'll likely do the under drive pulleys, 160 stat and electric water pump next.

Oh and I'll go ahead and replace the clutch, smoked it several times so far. While it's down I might as well do gears. Should I go to 4.10s or will 3.73s be good enough for low 1.6s or even 1.5s?

TIA

Congrat's on the 12 second run.

Go with the 4.10's next.

The electric waterpump will help your engine rev a bit smoother.

The 160 stat will be of little help unless you reprogram your cooling fans.

And I haven't heard of too many LT1/4 owners claiming better times with underdrive pulleys.

For your next mod on your LT4, I would:
1.) Replace the resonator/mufflers with straight pipe.
2.) Swap out stock rear gears, for 4.10's
3.) Invest in a nice set of E/T Streets
With those simple mods, I would expect your car to see the other side of 12's :yesnod:

What brand of gears are recommened and where can I get the 4.10s with reluctor? What else should be upgraded back there, u-joints, bearings?

Also, how is the resonance if you eliminate the resonator? It looks like it will be very easy to do. The resonator is the long skinny thing between the cats and the mufflers right? Mine has the H pipe after the 'resonator'. Leave it or go with an X pipe?

As for the fans, I will get the PCM reprogrammed after the gears rather than have to go back and forth getting updates.

Thanks!

Here is what my plans are... Maybe you can get some Ideas.....

I have a set of 3.91's, Which I feel are best of both worlds (4.10 and 3.73) I don thtihnk that 3.73 is a big enough difference to make it worth it.... Im not saying it wont make a difference (Has been argued) , im saying, For me.. not a big enough jump to acually do the work. I went with the 3.91s because I have a niotrous system ready for the car.... With juice and some other mods, Im planning on another 10-13 more mph on my traps of almost 109.... So I dont want to ever have to hit 5th gear.... Keeps me in 4th

I am also going to cut the resonator out and replace it with either an X-pipe of just straight pipe (want X but funds arent unlimited at 19, expecially when you bought the car yourself in the first place... can anyone one say broke).. and cut the mufflers off and weld on some Magnaflows..... (I havent completely made my decision on mufflers yet, but I think These are the ones I will go with....

As mentioned before I will be throwing my Nitrous system on it... Its a wet NOS system, Im going to be hitting it with 100hp. I also have a MSD digital 6+ installed and MSD Coil so the ignition is on par with th nitrous

I am having my computer reprogrammed to have the fans come on earlier, the rev limiter raised up acouple hundred rpms (I hit the rev limiter way to much.. this thing loves to rev and would like a little more room) and set it for 3.91s

I was thinking about headers... but Im not sure what direction im going with it... I dont want to butcher the car because It is pretty darn nice. I think I will be happy with that an 11s are def. in site

5th? I run thru the traps in 3rd. I just started shifting into 4th today at the last possible moment because I hated hitting the rev limiter at the end. 4th in my 96 goes way beyond 120.

As for Magnaflows, I hear that the resonance will drive you crazy! I was thinking Dynomax or maybe, just maybe Borla.

On a fellow CF members LT4 (JasonLT4) he had no mufflers or resonator and it sounded DAMN good, and put out a whopping 324rwhp on the dyno. (Only mods being the straight pipes and a flipped K&N filter). That's what I call POWER!
