Default Exhaust question

Hey guys, Im new here so I know this is going to be a boring and overly asked question. My friend has a C4 and wants a better sounding exhaust system for little money. I know on my Camaro we have what LS1 guys have coined Dynomouth exhaust. It uses the stock exhaust system minus the stock muffler and replaces it with straight pipes but it also adds a dynomax bullet resonator muffler in the intermideate pipe. This is pretty much the same thing as SLP's Lound Mouth exhaust. I guess my question is this: have any of you tried this? Also what size are the inlet and outlet for the C4 mufflers? Thanks a bunch.

Welcome to the Forum.

As for the exhaust, if he has an LT1/LT4 motor, Ecklers or Mid America (can't remember which) offers a cat-back setup that sounds just like the late 60's Vettes with side exhaust. It looks totally factory and runs around $550. It is called a chambered exhaust system. They essentially took two center sections of a side exhaust system and welded pipes to it so they run where the factory exhaust is. Even the tips are the wide mouth black tips. It replaces the mufflers and resonator. If you want to go even cheaper, you can just get muffler elims. They run around $149 for the pair. Size of the pipes, I am not sure of. My chambered exhaust is 3" if I remember right. Don't know what the factory size is. Sorry. :smash:

The L98 ('85-'91) mufflers have a 2 1/4" inlet and dual outlets.

The exhaust system consists of shortie headers into a front Y-pipe, into a cat, into a rear Y pipe, into dual mufflers which terminate in dual tips from each muffler.

As mentioned, your friend can simply buy muffler elims from MAD or Eckler's that will mate up with the rear Y-pipe and have dual tips for a stock-like look.
