Default L98 Idle question.

Okay, the baby is back on the streets & overall is running VERY well. I have to say the extra grip coil over shock conversion ride is a bit harsher than I expected but I'll live with it for the handling.

My question has to deal with idle, clutch in & car rolling, speed is not too important. Same at 5 mph to 50 mph. When rolling the idle seems to hunt, up & down from 800 to about 1100 RPM. As soon as I come to a complete stop the idle drops to 800 & stays there, smooth & clean. Does anyone else experience this &/or is this normal??

Though I don't feel it with my A4, my scanner shows that desired idle varies with speed/rpm and possibly with throttle position.

But I don't know if "hunting" idle with speed is normal.

well, i know that with speed, and clutch engaged my idle stays at about 11 - 12 rmps. after i completly stop, it will slowly (over about 5-7 seconds) drop to 8.

I've seen this same behavior on my car. As long as the car is rolling, the car stays around 900+ rpm. Once I'm fully stopped, it drops to around 650rpm. I always assumed this was normal. Is it?

Perhaps hunt was the wrong term for me to use. In an attempt to be more precise, the idle goes up & down between 800 & 1100 RPM. Almost like you were slowly turning the IAC up & down by hand. Its not all that rapid of a process about 1 or 1.5 seconds up & another 1 or 1.5 to go back down. I'm guessing that the chip in reading vehicle speed, RPM, vacum etc is thinking the idle is too low??

Did you consider changes in vacuum level because of using brakes or power steering pump load in slight turning, or even A/C cycling?

There are many conditions where a little RPM will improve driving experiences, so I wouldn't think it's a bad thing...it may be by design. :)
