The money from F-body R&D probably went into making SUVs :(

interesting question...here are my thoughts...the vette is a great car...best bang for the buck, but its probably not gonna get much better, at least not by huge leaps and bounds (i.e. more cylinders, mid engine, crazy wild "gee-whiz" technology), cuz that makes the price go into the viper/porsche/ferrari altitude...#1) unfortunately chevy took away the entry level f-body, and now they have that beast the SSR. its OK, but damn expensive for next to nothing. #2) if the C6 is any indication of the "drive" chevy has for new, fun and exciting vettes, then we are all in real trouble. they may be bumping the HP, but that body is really just a C5.5 IMHO. every other generation change has brought on something new and cutting edge, be it body style or engine related or both...so what does the C5.5 (as i will now always refer to is as) have to offer? and my final thought #3) (this is gonna enrage some c5-ers) i think chevy has shown how they feel about the vette in the latest generation change. the C4 was a race car on the streets, with a harsh ride and noisy interior, etc. (i love it all). but the C5 is just a really fast lincoln town car. yes, its fast, but its tame, with an attempt to be refined.
i think chevy needs to go back to the roots of it all and make something that is gonna wrap you up, and say "get in, shut up, hold on, and just SMILE :reddevil " i mean hell, dodge brought back the charger and looks like ford has the GT40...

well...my flame suit is ready...lemme have it :boxing

C5.5 - you have a valid point, but unlike the introduction of the '97, Chevy make no claims that the '05 vette would be an all new chasis - it's a major refreshing of the existing model. It is to the C5 what the '69 was to the mid-year vettes (C2s by modern convention). IMHO, if we refer to sharks as C3s, then we should remain consistant and refer to the '05s as C6s.

You know it doesnt surprise at all that GM would put all the money into the SUV program..... If they arent going to put it in the corvette program they just atleast , try and better the truck program, I love chevy trucks, but guys they cant compete with the dodges, with the HEMI,,, sweet,,,,,, the V-10,,, Ford has the V-10, the new F150,, You know they did away with two of the most popular cars in the history of cars, for what to build a tahoe, or a denali,,,,, WTF...... yeah we have the Z-71,,,but it hasnt changed in forever,,,, give me your opinions

I must agree with the C5.5 designation...take a look at the design, power and RPO list.

I had heard rumors of the F-body being reintroduced at a later date...but those have faded.

I would realy like to see the Caddy come with a posh "sports car" and take the Vette back to a real performance oriented sports car.
