Is there any problem with buying a refurbished alternator. Being tight on cash I bought a refurbished one for $67 instead of $200+ from my local Checkers. Any problems you might see? :flag
Good to see another military cop on here. How long you been in? When I came in ('89), USAF law enforcement specialists and Marine MPs trained together at Lackland AFB, TX.
Anyway, you shouldn't have any problems. I've bought rebuilt alt.'s for years and never had any problems.
i would have to really have extra money laying around to go get a new alt. i always have gotten a rebuilt one. and, i looked into the tech tip about rebuilding your own, might try that one. :D

Ive been in since 2000 and was in lackland couple years back for k-9 school. Will be going to Ft. leonard wood missouri (and freeze my behind off) for investigator school. Itll be nice to get off this island for a couple months. :flag :yesnod:
what is your alternator doing? usually when alternators go bad it's either the bearings or the regulator... both easy to fix
otherwise i would not hesitate buying a used alternator
Semper Fi! I've bought rebuilts from Checker a couple of times. One lasted about a year and the other lasted several years, still going strong when I sold the 87. You paysyour money and takes your chances, I guess. Heat kills the alternators on C4's. The small bearings of 105 amp don't much like the heat. I replaced the alternator on my 92 with a "life-time", any Chebby Dealer unit and it cost me close to $400! Yes, it was an outrageous price, but I was having serious back pain at the time.

I went to MPI school back in '93 when it was at Ft. McClellan, AL. I had a good time but it was a no joke intense school. I spent 7 yrs as a criminal investigator in the USAF. I'm currently an instructor at the AF's Law Enforcement & Security Academy at Lackland. Good Luck at MPI--crimes scenes is a B**CH!
