Default Question about engine removal

What is the best way to tag all of the hoses/wire and such so that when I put the engine back in I know where everyting goes. Its for my MR2 and I know this is not C4 related, but the ppl on this forum have the best knowlage about this kind of stuff anywhere and the information can be used when working on a Corvette...thanks

I've used tape and a magic marker. Also take a lot of pics, too many is not enough.

Ugh! Engine swaps in MR2 suck! I had to replace a blown engine in my old '91 MR2 Turbo. I don't ever want to do that again. Everything crammed into a very tight space, you have to lean way over to get at the engine, and the dang thing has to come out the bottom!

Fortunately, most of the wiring on mine had only one place it could plug into so it was hard to get them mixed up. It's still a good idea to label as much as possible. Just get a brightly colored masking tape and a marker.

I also find it very helpful to put bolts back in where I removed them as I'm disassembling. So, remove the bolts on a part, remove the part, then thread the bolts back in. This keeps the bolts from getting mixed up and saves me a lot of headaches. When that's not feasible, get small ziplock bags and put all the bolts for one part into a bag and label it.

The Toyota shop manuals (AKA BGB) are quite well written and I highly recommend getting them.

Here's one of the things that I do whenever I start taking the car apart. I put the nuts an bolts into empty prescription bottles and label the bottles with masking tape and a felt tip marker. It's suprising how you'll end up with extra nuts and bolts if you can't remember where they came from. By keeping a record, if you get distracted and can't get back to the car for a while, you can look at the bottles to figure out where the nuts and bolts go.

Thanks for all of the great advice. I had the trans out of the MR2 awhile ago doing the clutch and it wasnt too bad, I know there is a ton more stuff on the engine, but I am going to take it slow and mark everthing.
