Hey just a few sort of specific questions, what is the widest tire you can fit up front and in rear in a c4, also is it any different among the years. Also what year is the lightest weight and or the easiest to make lighter. Also which is the best candidate for an engine swap, like an ls1, or are they all about the same. Im thinking about a future roadrace/autocross car and I am searching teh site for info but I figured I would throw some questions out there to get me started... may come up with more :) Thanks!
I'm not sure about the tire size issue, but there is a recent thread here about weights. I believe the '84 or '85 was the lightest, but I would check the thread to make sure.
There is a tuner that pops in here that sells and installs an LS-1 conversion. You may be able to do an internet search for this tuner.
If you need new tires check with the Firestone on west Park in Plano, across from 24 hour fitness. Get your best price off the net, ie Tire Rack, and bring the printed info to them. They will match or beat the price.
Also they do a life time wheel alingment for $160, great deal, and the guy who works at that shop is known to be the best alignment guy in the area.
There's a 90 ZR1 in the area running 315/35-17's on factory 11x17 wheels all around for autocross and he doesn't seem to have any problems with interference.
Here's a link that you can use to get approximate curb weights of C4's and also the F/R weight distribution. The page is for an 89. Just click on the model year above the table to go back and forth for the C4 models. http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...9/89specs.html
With a little work you could put almost any Chevy V8 motor in a C4. There is an article in Corvette Fever about a big-block install and it looks very nice. An LS1 should fit in but you would have the usual issues with wiring, computer, accessories and such. The L98 and LT1/4 motors are a basic 350 block design so any of the GM crate motors will bolt into the frame. Of course going through the motor that is in the car and adding the mods you want would be the easiest route. What goes into the motors will depend a lot on the rules of whatever sanctioning body controls the events you enter.
1986 seems to be the lightest stock at 3280lbs, and the 84 and 85 are like 3542, jeez, the rest are all within 50 lbs.... which is the easiest to drop weight off of and I didnt find ANY posts with the word ls1 in them ??? maybe I used the search wrong or something?? but I was curious how much the addition of the ls1 and drop of teh l98 would reduce weight...? thanks for the help so far, this si more of a future thing ive been looking at for a year or so just waiting for a real job and some money :)
For a variety of reasons that I don't have time to delineate, the 89 and 90 years and later make the best road race platform.
OK, ease of brake enlargement/conversion, rear camber, and Zero Scrub steering geometry, but that's as far as I'm taking it.

BTW, the Search feature blows - I had to manually scroll back through C4 General to find it and the only reason I was able to is that I actually remembered reading the thread. Even if you type in the EXACT title of the thread in the Search string in eother recent or archived, it still won't find it. And this isn't the first time that's happened either...
I am running 11" GS wheels all the way around on my '95, with 315's front and 335's rear. They don't rub, but it's mighty close, especially on the rear. I'm sure it would vary from car to car and I think the older C4's that came with 16" wheels need a different offset than the newer ones.
