Default LT4 clutch ?

The clutch on my LT4 lets out really high in the travel pattern. The car only has 13K miles on it and has not been drag raced or anything that would have significantly worn out the clutch already. Is there some way I can adjust the let out point? I don't want to tear out the whole tranny for a clutch replacement if there is some way to correct the travel issue. The clutch does not seem to slip, it just lets out really late.

check your clutch fluid... it may need to be bled.

replace the fluid with Vavoline Synpower Synthetic Brake Fluid. Great stuff! (works good in brakes, too :D)

I cannot believe that the clutch is toast... but I would believe there is a problem with the hydraulics.

EDIT: the clutch fluid is accessed by removing the ECU from the left top side of the fire wall.

I changed the fluid out last winter but replaced with the normal DOT4 brake fluid. The car is up on jackstands for the winter so purging the system again is no problem. I was wondering if there is any way to get a peek at the clutch plate without taking apart the whole tranny?

You can't relly inspect the cluthc disc without pulling the transmission. You could pull the clutch slave and see how much travel you are getting, that would give you an idea of how worn your clutch disc is, as long as your clutch fork is not bent.

Cant look at the clutch disk/plate without removing the zf.
In fact you will also have to remove the bell housing and
then unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel to get a
look at both sides of the clutch disk.

I would first check the clutch hydraulics, it's
easier to remove the slave cylinder (attached to the driver side of
the bellhousing by two bolts no need to remove exhaust or
anything else). However, if the fork is somehow out of place
than you will need to remove the zf. Lets just hope its a simple
hydraulics issue.

Hydraulic clutches are supposed to engage high in travel pattern. I have seen complaints on the forum due to "lack of feel", especially for racing. That's just the way they work. My clutch just turned 90K and has been at the top of the arc since I got it. As the clutch wears you need to add fluid to keep it at the top.

Always check the fluid. If its low it may not shift. First sign on mine was trouble getting it into reverse.

Sorry to hear about yur lack of winter driving. :steering:
