Time for another dumb one(but I'm probably not alone on this one, I hope) How do I know if my convertor is lockedup or not? What is the 'feeling'(?) or what are the 'signs' that it is engaged? This is basic I'm sure but hey this is how you learn. Thanx
While rolling along at around 20-30mph pop the accelerator and notice the tach movement vs the speed; the TCC should not be locked and so the tach will jump before the speed can move much.
Then go up to say 60mph or so and again pop the accelerator; the TCC should be locked and so the tach should not jump but rather move up in unison with the speedo.
Sam, here's how I check it on my '94,LT1,A(all stock): cruseing while in 4th OD, and holding throttle steady, with ya left foot apply slight pressure to the brake (only takes 'bout 1" of pedal travel) the 'lock-out should disengage i.e. ya feel and note an increase in RPM. It's alway disengaged at WOT. When its "locked" as when in OD, there is no slippage hince 'super MPH'.
Hope this helps. Edit:should read 'super MPG'
Thanks for the replys. This place(forum) always comes thru and doesn't make you feel like an idiot. (and it's nice to know I wasn't the only one wondering) Have a corvette kinda day!

 That's right, applying the brake unlocks the converter so that the engine doesn't die when you stop.
